Acne
What is acne?
Acne is a common skin condition that occurs when hair follicles become clogged with oil and dead skin cells. It often causes whiteheads, blackheads, or pimples, and typically appears on the face, forehead, chest, upper back, and shoulders. Acne can affect people of all ages, though it’s most common among teenagers.
Causes
Excess oil production from overactive sebaceous glands can lead to clogged pores, causing acne. When dead skin cells aren’t shed properly, they mix with this excess oil, further clogging hair follicles. Additionally, the presence of bacteria, particularly Propionibacterium acnes (P. acnes), can cause inflammation, leading to the development of acne.
Hormonal changes during puberty, menstruation, pregnancy, and due to certain medications can increase oil production, contributing to acne. Furthermore, some studies suggest that diet and lifestyle factors, such as the consumption of dairy, high glycemic index foods, and stress, can exacerbate acne.
Treatments
At True Aesthetics, we understand that each person’s skin is unique. Our tailored treatment plans are designed to address the root causes of your acne and improve your skin’s health and appearance. Our approach to treating acne includes a variety of effective methods. Topical treatments involve medications that help reduce oil production, fight bacterial infections, and promote cell turnover.
For more severe cases, oral medications, such as antibiotics or hormone regulators, may be prescribed. Glow Bar Peels are another option, which exfoliate the skin and unclog pores. Additionally, we offer laser and light therapy, technologies designed to target bacteria and reduce inflammation. We also provide professional skin care products with customized recommendations tailored to your specific skin type and condition.
