Consultation & Patch Test
If you are a Fitz I – III, you can opt out of the Patch Test. Prior to booking your first BBL or MOXI treatment, please take advantage of an in-person consultation and patch test, one week prior. The patch test and assessment are for your safety; to ensure your best and safest results, we will complete a
thorough assessment, as well as patch test an inconspicuous area of skin (typically behind the ear) 1 week prior to your treatment. A patch test ensures that we minimize risk associated with the treatment, and that you receive your best and safest results.
This appointment can also be used for a detailed skin assessment, opportunity to complete Vectra Skin
Health imaging, and create a customized plan for your treatments!
If you choose to forego the patch test, your provider may elect not to treat you if there are any assessment findings that may put you at risk.

How do I prepare for my treatment?
After your consultation with True and your Patch Test (Fitz I – III can opt out of the Patch Test), which are required to receive BBL treatment, please follow these general guidelines:
Avoid sun exposure, tanning or chemical (fake) tanning agents for 21 days prior
Moisturize your skin to support healing.
Discontinue retinoids & exfoliants – Stop using products like retinol, glycolic acid, and salicylic
acid for 3–5 days before your appointment.
Skip harsh treatments – Avoid waxing, peels, or other resurfacing treatments in the area for at
least 1 week.
Clean skin only – Arrive with a clean face (no makeup, lotion, or SPF on the treatment area).
Medications – Let your provider know if you’re taking any medications that increase
photosensitivity (e.g., antibiotics).
What’s the process and how long will it last?
A BBL session is quick and straightforward, typically lasting 30-45 minutes, depending on the treatment area. Here’s what to expect:
- Cleansing: Your skin will be cleansed to remove makeup, sunscreen, or any debris.
- Protective Eyewear: You will wear goggles to shield your eyes from the light pulses.
- Application of Cooling Gel: A cooling gel may be applied to enhance comfort and allow better light penetration.
- BBL Treatment: The device delivers pulses of light energy to the skin, targeting pigment, redness, and vascular concerns.
- Post-Treatment Care: A soothing serum or SPF may be applied to protect the skin after the session.
Will it hurt?
BBL is generally well-tolerated, with most clients describing it as a warm snapping sensation, similar to a rubber band lightly flicking the skin. A cooling tip on the device helps minimize discomfort, and numbing is not typically needed.
How long is the recovery period?
BBL is a non-invasive treatment with minimal downtime. After treatment:
- Your skin may appear slightly red or flushed for a few hours, similar to a mild sunburn.
- Dark spots and pigmentation may temporarily darken before flaking off over 5-7 days—this is normal and part of the skin renewal process.
- Mild swelling or warmth may persist for a day or two, but most clients return to their normal activities immediately.
When will I see results?
Results develop gradually as the skin heals and regenerates. Many clients notice brighter, clearer skin within 5-7 days, with continued improvements over the next few weeks.

- Pregnancy and breastfeeding
- Skin cancer or malignant lesions
- Sunburned or tanned skin
- Recent use of self-tanning products
- Photosensitizing medications (e.g., Accutane, certain antibiotics)
- Active skin conditions (acne, eczema)
- Darker skin tones (Fitzpatrick IV-VI, higher risk of pigmentation issues)
- History of epilepsy
- Melasma
