Dry or dehydrated skin

What is dry or dehydrated skin?

Dry skin is characterized by a lack of natural oil production, which can leave the skin feeling tight, rough, and prone to flakiness or scaling. It often results from genetic predispositions, environmental factors such as dry or cold weather, harsh skincare products, or natural aging processes. On the other hand, dehydrated skin occurs when the skin lacks sufficient water content, irrespective of its oil levels. This condition can affect any skin type and typically manifests as tightness, dullness, and increased visibility of fine lines and wrinkles. Contributing factors include inadequate hydration, excessive consumption of caffeine or alcohol, dry air, sun exposure, and the use of harsh skincare products that strip away moisture. Effective treatments for both conditions focus on replenishing moisture, improving skin barrier function, and maintaining optimal hydration levels to promote healthier and more resilient skin.

treatments

True Aesthetics provides tailored treatments to restore moisture and improve skin health. We suggest a Hydrafacial to gently exfoliate and replenish moisture levels while nourishing the skin with essential vitamins and nutrients. These facials often include gentle exfoliation to remove dry, flaky skin cells and promote a smoother complexion. True Aesthetics also recommends medical-grade moisturizers and hydrating serums designed to strengthen the skin barrier and lock in moisture.

In cases of dehydrated skin, True Aesthetics offers treatments aimed at restoring the skin’s hydration balance. Our skincare experts may recommend hyaluronic acid treatments, which attract and retain moisture within the skin, providing a plumper and more hydrated appearance. Additionally, we provide personalized skincare regimens that include hydrating masks and serums to replenish lost moisture and improve skin elasticity. Regular hydration maintenance and a customized skincare routine are emphasized to maintain optimal skin hydration levels over time.

Based on your Medical Aestheticians assessment, you may benefit from a personalized skincare routine, or addition of a gentle acid peel to promote skin cell turnover and to slough dry skin, to enable your skin care actives to penetrate more deeply.

For some, hydration can be achieved by promoting the skins natural collagen; for this we recommend both microneedling or RF microneedling (Morpheus8).  As we.move through life, our collagen and elastin stores deplete, leaving the skin feeling less plump and vibrant, and more prone to fine lines.  Collagen-induction therapies utilize the principle of controlled injury to stimulate collagen.

Restoring lost collagen can result in greater skin plumpness, reduction of fine lines, and improvement to skin texture, leading the skin to have greater levels of hydration.
